It offers a campaign with memorable characters, interesting role-playing options, and excellent systemic combat. The environments are beautiful and the soundtrack is solid. That alone would put it at the top of the heap, but then Larian added offline and online coop, a PVP arena mode, and Game Master mode, the greatest throwback to the Dungeons & Dragons pen-and-paper games that underpin the entire genre. I might have small issues here and there, but Divinity: Original Sin 2 is one of the best in a strong year for gaming. Divinity: Original Sin 2 takes what the last game did, and juices it up to levels beyond what the doctor recommends. By maximizing its strengths, and finding new ways to improve on weaknesses, it knocks down barriers and locked doors alike in a power move to rush towards one of my favorite games of the year. Though it does have its flaws in the form of small technical glitches, and one really annoying one where sometimes my characters would stop moving as a party unless I manually did it myself, this is an imperfect gem that manages even in imperfection to put some of my favorite RPGs to shame. Well done Larian Studios, well done! Divinity: Original Sin II has such a wide scope and is such a dense, feature-rich game that it's easy to lose track of time and get completely immersed in its writing, characters, and raw inventiveness. There's a never-ending draw to see one more quest to completion, to try out one new ability or tactic in one more encounter, or to explore just one more location. Divinity: Original Sin II will relentlessly test your own creativity, demand your attention, prove your abilities, force you to question your own decisions, and overall keep giving reasons to continue playing and never lets go. A Masterpiece. A bold way to start a review, but think of the best RPG you have ever played, and then think of the best developers to A Masterpiece. A bold way to start a review, but think of the best RPG you have ever played, and then think of the best developers to back it up. Larian is humble, open, and inspired and they have poured those feelings and skills into this game. To be honest, when playing through early access the only think I felt was missing was Voice acting. I understood of course the challenge that would be required to do it right and I respected the fact that Larian had at least considered it. Without requesting more money or making excuses, they made if feasible, did it in secret, and released it as a gift. DOS2 has fantastic graphics, fantastic story, amazing mechanics, and challenges to the player to think through puzzles and mysteries. Its not handed on a silver platter, but each and every choice is made rewarding. You can literally play through this game billions of different ways. To top it off, you can play 4 player COOP. I have always wanted an amazing RPG with drop in and out coop and DOS EE was great for that. Now DOS2 has made it even better. In summary, props to Larian and i truly recommend you give DOS 2 a shot. Well, I pre-purchased this game while it was still in development and you know what one of the best games (in this genre) I have ever played. Well, I pre-purchased this game while it was still in development and you know what one of the best games (in this genre) I have ever played. Just before the release date, my graphics card went dead and you know what, I have been playing this game with an i7 4790k, 8 gigs of RAM and NO GRAPHICS CARD. This game is very very optimized and gameplay, oh hell, everyone knows about it, amazing duh!!! This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The story, lore, characters, and base design of the game is good.but then somebody made so many bad decisions with it that it pretty much ruins the entire game. NPC (As an undead): AHH! An abomination! Same NPC (while hiding your undead nature): Ah, I knew you were undead all along, it's cool fam. Zaleskar: If you weren't absolute gutter-trash you wouldn't have to hide the fact that you're undead, you know. PCs in combat, who supposedly have no idea that you are undead: 'I don't know why I'm casting massive amounts of long range healing spells on you, it just feels right!' Undead:.Is obviously undead. Undead in a hat:.Is also obviously undead, but no one seems to notice. DoSII Developers: We have 97 types of environments!!! With enough fire, all of them become fire. You:.spends three hours researching and tweaking the perfect main character. Fane in the first five minutes of the game: I predate the gods, and you are lowly gutter trash. Magisters:.treats you like a slave. Red Prince:.treats you like a rejected slave. Fane:.treats you like gutter trash. Actual gods: 'You are the chosen one!!!!' You (To Zaleskar): Hello, my name is. Ifan (interrupting): Wait, I have business with this bloke You:.waves him ahead and tries again): Hello! Sebille (interrupt): Wait, I have business with this bloke. You: For the love of.Fine! You (fighting with a sharp piece of metal tied to a stick):.kills an NPC in full magister armor dual-wielding axes literally glowing with arcane power. Also you: They only thing they had of use was this piece of lint and a string I snagged from their sock. You (surrounded by a dozen people or so): Yea.I'm alone. You get a bless spell that tells you it can remove curses, but it can't remove the curses from cursed items. There are also so many prerequisite feats and stats you have to get on your main character that just don't work right on your party members, like persuasion and Pet Pal, that your main character ends up gimped with a ton of social status unless you plan on simply murdering everything in your path. The rules are incredibly unclear as to what heals undead and what doesn't. Necromancy and necromancy skills 'heal' vitality and seem to work normally, but other skills that 'heal vitality' do damage instead, with no clear indicator as to why. Likewise, decaying says it causes 'healing' to do damage, but that effects anything that makes your HP go up it seems, including 'damage' from poison and necromancy on undead characters, which makes zero sense sense it specifies 'healing potions and healing spells.' Cursed surfaces are the Devii, happen often, and have no clear way of removing them. Most of the monsters can 1-shot your entire party so most of the game-play is centered around min-maxed 'broken' builds and cheese game play. There is so much deus ex machina in this game that your involvement is largely unnecessary. The writers break pretty much every rule of RPG etiquette. ![]() Half my time playing is spent alt-tabbed into an Internet browser trying to figure out WTF I'm supposed to be doing.
